Where we visit
Inua Mimi Rescue Centre
"INUA MIMI"
translates to "LIFT ME UP" in English.
IMRC is a home to 60+ children who were rescued from the community which faces Tribalism, Child Abandonment, Orphan, Early Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation, Poverty and more.
They provide shelter, give basic education, and expose them to the arts such as dance, photography, singing and other talents.
Community Heart Organisation
Aptly named, this organization was started in 2019. The idea behind it was to help curtail a lot of crime that was in the area. The crime was perpetuated by lack of income and motivation in the youth. The inception of the businesses has helped change the trajectory of many of the youth involved in crime. Once the youth makeup their minds to reform, they “hang their boots” seek help.
Local Schools
We shall visit some local schools and see how education is carried out in Kibera. We meet the children and enjoy sometime with them.
Power Women Group
The Power Women Group consists of 15 HIV positive women who came together to reduce the stigma surrounding HIV/ AIDS. They strive to reduce poverty by training women on self- sustaining skills, providing community outreach and ultimately eliminate the stigma.
People Living with Disability
We visit groups of young and old alike of people living with disability to see how they live their day to day lives as they overcome various challenges they face in Kibera.
Artisan groups
These are groups of artists who use locally available resources to come up with some extraordinary artwork. Some examples are Bone Group Africa and Art 360.
